We’re celebrating our first anniversary. We can’t believe it’s been twelve months since Harbor Lights opened its doors in Victor Harbor.
When we launched in October 2025, we had one goal: to give locals on the Fleurieu Peninsula a genuine alternative when it came to buying lighting. Not another trip to Adelaide. Not another guess-and-hope online purchase that looked different when it arrived. Just a proper, interactive lighting showroom in Victor Harbor where you could walk in, see things working, and talk to someone who actually knows what they’re talking about.
A year in, the questions we’ve heard most often tell us a lot about what homeowners really want help with.
The most common: “Is this light going to look the same at home as it does here?” It’s the reason we keep as many possible fittings lit and ceiling fans running in the showroom, for you to see what they actually look like. Photos on a screen don’t tell you how a light actually feels in a room. Seeing it in person does.
And, for those we don’t have in our showroom, we can sit down with you and browse catalogues and online slideshows to show you the options too.

The second most common: “What’s the difference between those two ceiling fans?” Usually one has a DC motor and one has an AC motor. Usually the DC fan is quieter, offers more speed settings, and is cheaper to run over time. Usually that answers it — and usually the person walks out with a better fan than they thought they needed.
The third is more a comment: “I didn’t know there was a lighting store in Victor Harbor.” That one reminds us exactly why we’re here. For years, people on the Fleurieu have made the trip to Adelaide, bought something online they couldn’t see in person, or settled for whatever the hardware store happened to stock. There is a better way — and we’ve spent the last twelve months proving it.
What we’ve learned this year is that people mostly want the same things: honest advice they can trust, products that are going to hold up, and someone local they can call if something goes wrong. We’ve done our best to be that for every person who’s walked through the door.
